One of the benefits newcomers and their partners miss most: university studies in Sweden can be free of fees for them.
Who doesn't pay fees
You don't pay application or tuition fees if you have been granted a temporary Swedish residence permit for reasons other than studies, such as work or family. A permit granted for studies doesn't give that exemption. University Admissions: who pays fees
What you show
Usually nothing: the admissions system checks your Swedish personal identity number. If it can't confirm your status, you're asked for a copy of Migrationsverket's decision, which states the grounds for your permit.
For partners
A partner with a family permit is in the same position. Studying can be a way into the Swedish job market alongside SFI. See partner careers in Sweden.
Moving for work? How Settio helps
Settio helps employers and immigration and relocation agencies run the whole move in one place, so the person moving can focus on settling in:
- Before the move: one plan for the permit and the move, with every step and deadline. A partner and children get their own steps in the same household.
- After arrival: the employee portal shows the newcomer their next steps on their phone, in their language, from registering after arrival to help for settling in.
- When the permit runs out: permit monitoring flags the extension in good time.
