Figures change every month. Each permit links to its Migrationsverket page with the live figure, and the work permit page has the latest for employees. How to avoid delays: speeding up a Swedish work permit.
What the figures mean
Migrationsverket publishes the time within which 75% of cases were decided. A single case can be faster or slower, and missing documents are the most common reason it takes longer.
Complete or incomplete
A complete application has every document and detail from the start. Incomplete applications often take several times longer because they need supplements.
The figures move
Migrationsverket updates its processing times every month. Each permit in the table links to the page with the live figure, and Settio's processing time index (settio.io/data/processing-times) keeps a dated record of every check.

FAQ
Processing times, explained
How long does a Swedish work permit take in 2026?
At the time of our last check, Migrationsverket decided 75% of complete applications within about one month for highly qualified jobs and about four months for other jobs. Incomplete applications take much longer.
What do Migrationsverket's processing times mean?
They show the time within which 75% of cases were decided. Your case can be faster or slower, and missing documents are the most common cause of delay.
Why does a complete application matter so much?
Incomplete applications need supplements, which often makes them take several times longer. The table shows both figures where Migrationsverket publishes them.
How often is this table updated?
Settio checks the figures regularly; this version was checked on 1 October 2026. Migrationsverket's own pages always have the live figure.
