This article doesn't give tax advice. It lists what Skatteverket says about who is taxed in Sweden, and the questions worth taking to a tax adviser before you move.
Who is fully taxed in Sweden
You're fully liable to tax (obegränsat skattskyldig) if you:
- live in Sweden: your real home is here and you're registered here;
- stay here permanently: at least six months in a row (short trips home don't break it); or
- have a substantial connection after moving away.
Then you pay Swedish tax on all your income, from Sweden and from abroad, unless Swedish rules or a tax treaty exempt part of it, and you report all of it. Skatteverket: tax liability
Questions for your tax adviser
- How will my savings, investments and pension at home be taxed once I'm resident here?
- Is there a tax treaty between Sweden and my country, and what does it change for me?
- Should I do anything before the date I become resident?
- Does an ISK suit me? See what an ISK is.
Moving for work? How Settio helps
Settio helps employers and immigration and relocation agencies run the whole move in one place, so the person moving can focus on settling in:
- Before the move: one plan for the permit and the move, with every step and deadline. A partner and children get their own steps in the same household.
- After arrival: the employee portal shows the newcomer their next steps on their phone, in their language, from registering after arrival to help for settling in.
- When the permit runs out: permit monitoring flags the extension in good time.
