Is it safe to use AI on passports and immigration documents?
Updated
Passports and ID cards can be read from their machine-readable zone without AI, which is both safer and exact. AI is useful for checking other documents against the requirements and flagging gaps, as long as a person decides and the AI result is labelled.
In detail
- Machine-readable zones give exact names, numbers and dates.
- AI explains and flags; it should not decide.
- Every AI result should be visible as AI and not as advice.
How Settio helps
Settio reads passports, ID cards and residence permit cards from their machine-readable zone, never by AI, and marks every AI check as AI.
