How do I hire an employee from outside the EU in Sweden?
Updated · Facts checked against the official sources below
Advertise the job in Sweden and the EU for at least ten days, then sign an employment contract on terms at least at the collective agreement level, with a monthly salary of at least 34,470 SEK for applications from 16 June 2026. Start the application in the Swedish Migration Agency's employer e-service; the union gets to comment on the terms and the employee completes their part. The permit must be granted before they come to Sweden to work.
In detail
- Advertise the position for at least ten days, for example on the Swedish Public Employment Service's job bank, which also shows on EURES.
- Sign the employment contract after the advertising period, with salary, insurance and terms at the collective agreement or industry level.
- Start the application in the employer e-service; the relevant union is given the chance to comment on the terms.
- The employee completes their part and pays the fee; the application is registered only then.
- Plan the move, registration and personnummer for after the decision.
