Can an employee's family move to Sweden with them?
Updated · Facts checked against the official sources below
Yes. A partner and children can apply for residence permits as family members. Under the rules from 1 October 2026 the worker must usually show they can support the family: a set amount must be left each month after tax and rent. Filing the family's applications together with the work permit keeps everyone on one timeline.
In detail
- Proof of the relationship and passports for each family member.
- The maintenance requirement: income left after tax and rent, set per adult and per child.
- Children's school and preschool places follow registration.
